Starts bench grinder, and turns handwheels to move bit against grinding wheel, and turns bit to sharpen each cutting edge. Rubs bit on oilstone by hand to smooth edges and complete sharpening.  Tends bit-sharpening machine to shape and sharpen detachable bits of mining equipment: Inserts bits into clamps of power-driven revolving drum and fastens them in place, using wrench.
