Specialty Definition: Bilge

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Bilge Khan (683 - 734) was one of the most influential emperors of the Kokturk empire.

His name literally means "wise emperor". He assumed the leadership after a coup against the previous emperor, gathered the local Turkic people under his flag after numerous battles and invaded the western sections of the Chinese territories. After he was killed by being poisoned, an inscription was erected near the Orhon River on a monumental area, which is known today as Orhon inscriptions.
