Mining

A laboratory instrument used for measuring the relative weight strength of an explosive material. Also, a test in which a standard weight of explosive is placed within a small borehole fitted with a projectile. The mortar, suspended on a pendulum, recoils upon detonation. The recoil is a measure of the weight strength in percentage (relative to a standard whosevalue is 100) or pendulum deflection. (references)
