Ground water that is under pressure when tapped by a well and is able to rise above the level at which it is first encountered. It may or may not flow out at ground level. Ground water that is confined within a permeable bed and that rises under pressure to approx. the height of the intake. If the outlet (well or spring) is appreciably below the height of the intake, the water will flow out under pressure.
