Metallurgy

Aluminium alloys the main alloying element of which is silicon. These alloys, the silicon content of which ranges from 2 to 10%, known as hypoeutectic, are the more commonly used. At about 12% silicon, the alloy is eutectic, a common trade name being "ALPAX". Alloys exceeding this content are referred to as hypereutectic and at levels of 16 to 22% silicon are sometimes called hypersilicon. Source: European Union. (references)
