Dream Interpretation | To visit an academy in your dreams, denotes that you will regret opportunities that you have let pass through sheer idleness and indifference. To think you own, or are an inmate of one, you will find that you are to meet easy defeat of aspirations. You will take on knowledge, but be unable to rightly assimilate and apply it. For a young woman or any person to return to an academy after having finished there, signifies that demands will be made which the dreamer may find himself or her self unable to meet. Literature | Academy Divided into - Old, the philosophic teaching of Plato and his immediate followers; Middle, a modification of the Platonic system, taught by Arcesilaos; New, the half-sceptical school of Carneades. Plato taught that matter is eternal and infinite, but without form or order; and that there is an intelligent cause, the author of everything. He maintained that we could grasp truth only so far as we had elevated our mind by thought to its divine essence. Arcesilaos was the great antagonist of the Stoics, and wholly denied man's capacity for grasping truth. Carneades maintained that neither our senses nor our understanding could supply us with a sure criterion of truth. The talent of the Academy, so Plato called Aristotle (B.C. 384--322). (From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)
The Academy was a park and gymnasium outside of Athens dedicated to the hero Academus. It is best known for the school of learning that Plato founded there in approximately 385 BC. This school is usually contrasted with Aristotle's own creation, the Peripatetics.
Famous philosophers entrusted with running the Academy include Arcesilaus and Proclus.
The emperor Justinian closed the school in AD 529. Its remaining members looked for protection under the rule of Sassanid king Khosrau I. Some members found sanctuary in the pagan stronghold of Harran, and their students contributed the Arab Renaissance.
