A rare, X-linked immunodeficiency syndrome characterized by eczema, thrombocytopenic purpura, and recurrent pyogenic infection. It is seen exclusively in young boys. Typically, IgM levels are low and IgA and IgE levels are elevated. Lymphoreticular malignancies are common. (references)

Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome (WAS) is characterized by a tendency to bleed easily and development of an intensely itchy, scaling skin rash (eczema). (references)

For several life-threatening immunodeficiencies, bone marrow transplantation (BMT) offers the chance of a dramatic, complete, and permanent cure. Since the first BMT was performed in 1968, nearly 1,000 children with PI, including SCID, Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome, Leukocyte Adhesion Defect, and other disorders, have shown a remarkable recovery.
