Polypeptide-containing antibiotic isolated from a species of Streptomyces in New Mexican soil. It appears to be highly active against gram-positive bacteria. In veterinary medicine, thiostrepton has been used in mastitis caused by gram-negative organisms and in dermatologic disorders. (references)
