According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 23.1 km² (8.9 mi²). 23.1 km² (8.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
There are 2,036 households out of which 52.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.0% are married couples living together, 26.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.7% are non-families. 15.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.00 and the average family size is 4.49.
In the town the population is spread out with 42.8% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 15.7% from 45 to 64, and 4.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 23 years. For every 100 females there are 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $38,556, and the median income for a family is $37,813. Males have a median income of $29,280 versus $26,855 for females. The per capita income for the town is $10,479. 28.2% of the population and 23.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 33.0% are under the age of 18 and 44.8% are 65 or older.

There are 2,445 housing units at an average density of 105.8/km² (274.0/mi²).
