Swink is a town located in Otero County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 696.

Geography


Swink is located at 38°0'53" North, 103°37'40" West (38.014739, -103.627802)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 696 people, 278 households, and 199 families residing in the town. The population density is 995.3/km² (2,584.6/mi²). There are 291 housing units at an average density of 416.1/km² (1,080.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 88.79% White, 0.43% African American, 1.01% Native American, 0.86% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 7.18% from other races, and 1.72% from two or more races. 20.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 278 households out of which 34.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1% are married couples living together, 8.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% are non-families. 25.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.99. In the town the population is spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $36,094, and the median income for a family is $46,667. Males have a median income of $36,806 versus $25,694 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,353. 10.8% of the population and 8.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 9.6% are under the age of 18 and 13.3% are 65 or older.

Swink is located at 34°1'6" North, 95°12'10" West (34.018441, -95.202851)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²). 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 83 people, 36 households, and 24 families residing in the town. The population density is 200.3/km² (513.1/mi²). There are 47 housing units at an average density of 113.4/km² (290.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 90.36% White, 0.00% African American, 4.82% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.20% from other races, and 3.61% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 36 households out of which 27.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.8% are married couples living together, 13.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% are non-families. 27.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.75. In the town the population is spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 102.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.9 males. The median income for a household in the town is $11,250, and the median income for a family is $13,929. Males have a median income of $52,917 versus $14,583 for females. The per capita income for the town is $7,748. 50.0% of the population and 41.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 54.5% are under the age of 18 and 20.0% are 65 or older.
