Stockholm is the capital and the largest City of Sweden. The City of Stockholm is administratively a Municipality within Stockholm County, with an inner city population of 743,703, and with 1,823,210 including the suburbs and county.

As a capital Stockholm is the site of the Government and the Parliament of Sweden. It is also the residence of the head of state, King Carl XVI Gustaf.

History

The earliest mention of Stockholm in writing dates from 1252, when it was an important post in the iron trade from the mines in Bergslagen. The city is said to have been founded by Birger Jarl in order to protect Sweden from invasion from the sea by foreign navies and stop pillage of the cities such as Sigtuna on lake Mälaren. The first building at Stockholm was a fortification for the purpose of controlling the traffic between the Baltic Sea and Mälaren.

Stockholm is a town located in Pepin County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 75.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 56.3 km² (21.7 mi²). 39.8 km² (15.4 mi²) of it is land and 16.5 km² (6.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 29.35% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 75 people, 35 households, and 24 families residing in the town. The population density is 1.9/km² (4.9/mi²). There are 65 housing units at an average density of 1.6 persons/km² (4.2 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 100.00% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 35 households out of which 25.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% are married couples living together, 2.9% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 31.4% are non-families. 25.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. Stockholm County, or Stockholms län, is a County or län on the Baltic sea coast of Sweden. It borders to the counties of Uppsala and Södermanland. It also borders to the lake of Mälaren and to the Baltic Sea. The City of Stockholm is the Capital of Sweden.

Stockholm County is divided upon the provinces of Uplandia and Sudermannia.

Administration

Prior to 1968 the County of Stockholm did not include the City of Stockholm. The City was instead under the Overgovenor's Office, and the County included the surrounding countryside. The County was had its separate Governor of Stockholm County.

The main aim of the County Administrative Board is to fullfil the goals set in national politics by the Parliament and the Government, to coordinate the interests of the county, to promote the development of the county, to establish regional goals and safeguard the due process of law in the handling of each case. The County Administrative Board is nominally a Government Agency headed by a Governor. See List of Stockholm Governors.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 89.8 km² (34.7 mi²). 89.6 km² (34.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.20% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 271 people, 111 households, and 79 families residing in the town. The population density is 3.0/km² (7.8/mi²). There are 140 housing units at an average density of 1.6/km² (4.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.26% White, 0.00% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
