A pressurized, air-blown fixed-bed gasifier is being developed to produce a low-Btu gas from a wide variety of coals. A variable height stirrer facilitates the breaking-up and gasifying of caking coals. The gasifier is very similar to the Lurgi gasifier in operating principle. Process conditions are:a temperature of 1260° C in the combustion zone and a pressure of 300 pounds per square inch gage. Source: European Union. (references)
