Polo is a team game played on a field with one goal for each team. The object is to propel an object through or into the goal. In this it is similar to many team sports such as football and field hockey. The main difference is that the players play on horseback, or in the water (if the latter, the sport is often referred to as "water polo").See also Polocrosse for another game played on horseback.
Other uses:
- A polo-neck sweater has a circular neck-hole, as opposed to a v-neck.
- Polo Mints are ring-shaped mints, similar to Lifesavers Mints.

It is generally available only as a hatchback, although in South America and South Africa, there is also a sedan version, as hatchbacks are not as popular in those markets as they are in Europe. The Polo is mechanically very similar to the SEAT Ibiza and Cordoba, produced in Spain, and the previous sedan and wagon versions (Polo Classic and Polo Variant) being almost identical to the SEAT Cordoba. In addition, the previous model SEAT Ibiza was sold in South Africa as the VW Polo Playa.
