Literature | Plymouth Brethren A sect that protests against all sectarianism, and advocates the unity of the church; some even go so far as to advocate a community of goods. So called from Plymouth, where they sprang into existence in 1830. Source: Brewer's Dictionary. |

Later this movement split several times, resulting in the Open Brethren mainly referred to by the name "Plymouth Brethren" and the Exclusive Brethren, a cult-like cell-structured movement led by James Taylor Senior, James Taylor Junior, James H. Symington, John S. Hales, and currently Bruce D. Hales.
The latter branch is not represented on the Internet for obvious reasons: their teachings forbids all use of computers, TV and radio, and their organization has strong mechanisms in place to ensure that this policy is followed. (They are, however, allowed to read newspapers.)
