Botanical | The roots are chewed to alleviatge toothache, and sniffed to relieve headache. In the Choco a leaf infusion is used for parturition in women and in cattle. It is used also as a febrifuge, and aerial parts are used to cure pulmonary ailments. It is elsewhere placed among woolens to protect them from insects. It is administered to induce menstruation and by some is considered aphrodisiac and ecbolic. Sabana Choco and La Nueva Negroes use it as a vampire repellant (!). Salaqui Choco, however, wear it as a perfume (!). Mixed with lemon, anamu is used by La Nueva Negrows as a snakebite remedy. (references) |
