Ostend (Oostende in Dutch) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Ostend proper and the towns of Mariakerke, Stene and Zandvoorde. On January 1st, 2000 Ostend had a total population of 67,279 (32,248 males and 35,031 females). The total area is 38.17 km² which gives a population density of 1762.61 inhabitants per km².
