Mignon is an opera by Ambroise Thomas. The libretto was written by Barbier and Carre based on Goethe's story Wilhelm Meister. It was first performed in Paris in 1896.

Mignon was very popular in the 19th century but now is rarely performed. There are a several recordings of it.

Mignon is a town located in Talladega County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 1,348.

Geography


Mignon is located at 33°10'59" North, 86°15'52" West (33.182929, -86.264456)1. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.3 km² (2.8 mi²). 7.3 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.71% water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,348 people, 550 households, and 365 families residing in the town. The population density is 185.2/km² (480.4/mi²). There are 640 housing units at an average density of 87.9/km² (228.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 76.19% White, 22.11% Black or African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. 0.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 550 households out of which 28.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.5% are married couples living together, 16.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% are non-families. 30.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 3.02. In the town the population is spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.7 males. The median income for a household in the town is $21,019, and the median income for a family is $27,589. Males have a median income of $28,352 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,675. 28.1% of the population and 28.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 48.1% are under the age of 18 and 12.3% are 65 or older.
