Specialty Definition: Mere, Wiltshire

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Mere is a large village in Wiltshire, England, having many interesting features. Also, it has a lot of shops, though the number has halved since a bypass was opened in about 1975.

From the Village Square, and within earshot of the Chiming Village Clock, it's possible to glimpse a high verdant carpet between the ancient grey walls of the shops and houses. This is the extreme Southwestern tip of Salisbury Plain.

Again from the Village Square, it is impossible to miss noticing the steep slope of Castle Hill rising from the northwestern side of Mere.

Mere is also a commune in the Yvelines département in France.

Despite this long familiarity, relatively little was known until recently about the processes in the brain that lead to Alzheimer's disease. (references)

This means that higher doses and more frequent use of cocaine are required for the brain to register the same level of pleasure experienced during initial use. Recent studies have shown that, during periods of abstinence from cocaine use, the memory of the euphoria associated with cocaine use, or mere exposure to cues associated with drug use, can trigger tremendous craving and relapse to drug use, even after long periods of abstinence. SYMBOL, n. Something that is supposed to typify or stand for something else. Many symbols are mere "survivals" -- things which having no longer any utility continue to exist because we have inherited the tendency to make them; as funereal urns carved on memorial monuments.
