Marvin is a village located in Union County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,039.

Geography


Marvin is located at 34°59'7" North, 80°49'0" West (34.985372, -80.816788)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 10.2 km² (3.9 mi²). 10.2 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.51% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 1,039 people, 329 households, and 302 families residing in the village. The population density is 102.3/km² (264.8/mi²). There are 355 housing units at an average density of 35.0/km² (90.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.50% White, 1.73% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.19% from two or more races. 1.06% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 329 households out of which 52.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 87.5% are married couples living together, 2.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 8.2% are non-families. 6.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.16 and the average family size is 3.30. In the village the population is spread out with 33.6% under the age of 18, 3.4% from 18 to 24, 33.8% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 5.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.1 males. The median income for a household in the village is $97,497, and the median income for a family is $100,904. Males have a median income of $78,004 versus $57,019 for females. The per capita income for the village is $36,626. 1.9% of the population and 2.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 1.5% are under the age of 18 and 2.1% are 65 or older.

Marvin is located at 45°15'37" North, 96°54'45" West (45.260146, -96.912613)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 66 people, 19 households, and 9 families residing in the town. The population density is 47.2/km² (121.6/mi²). There are 28 housing units at an average density of 20.0/km² (51.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 84.85% White, 0.00% African American, 13.64% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 19 households out of which 21.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 26.3% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 52.6% are non-families. 47.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 3.22. In the town the population is spread out with 19.7% under the age of 18, 3.0% from 18 to 24, 22.7% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 25.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 407.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 430.0 males. The median income for a household in the town is $17,250, and the median income for a family is $34,375. Males have a median income of $36,250 versus $11,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,405. 40.2% of the population and 23.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 52.2% are under the age of 18 and 57.9% are 65 or older.
