Census

A geographic entity whose origin, boundary, name, and description result from charters, laws, treaties, or other administrative or governmental action, such as the United States, states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Island Areas, counties, cities, boroughs, towns, villages, townships, American Indian reservations, Alaska Native villages, Congressional districts, and school districts. The legal entities and their boundaries that the Census Bureau recognizes for a census are those in existence on January 1 of the census year.
