Laura is a 1944 film noir film which tells the story of a police detective, investigating a woman's murder, who falls in love with her portrait. It stars Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb, Vincent Price and Judith Anderson.

The movie was adapted by Jay Dratler, Samuel Hoffenstein, Elizabeth Reinhardt and Ring Lardner Jr (uncredited) from the novel by Vera Caspary. It was directed by Rouben Mamoulian (uncredited) and Otto Preminger.

It won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography, Black-and-White, and was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Clifton Webb), Best Art Direction-Interior Decoration, Black-and-White, Best Director (Otto Preminger) and Best Writing, Screenplay. In 1999 the film was deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

Laura is a village located in Miami County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 487.

Geography


Laura is located at 39°59'39" North, 84°24'28" West (39.994064, -84.407894)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 487 people, 175 households, and 131 families residing in the village. The population density is 671.5/km² (1,714.6/mi²). There are 182 housing units at an average density of 251.0/km² (640.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.54% White, 0.00% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.41% from other races, and 1.64% from two or more races. 2.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 175 households out of which 41.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.1% are non-families. 17.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.18. In the village the population is spread out with 29.2% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 110.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.8 males. The median income for a household in the village is $45,833, and the median income for a family is $46,250. Males have a median income of $33,542 versus $23,906 for females. The per capita income for the village is $17,912. 2.8% of the population and 2.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 3.0% are under the age of 18 and 0.0% are 65 or older.
