Bible | Lamp (1.) That part of the candle-sticks of the tabernacle and the temple which bore the light (Ex. 25:37; 1 Kings 7:49; 2 Chr. 4:20; 13:11; Zech. 4:2). Their form is not described. Olive oil was generally burned in them (Ex. 27:20). (2.) A torch carried by the soliders of Gideon (Judg. 7:16, 20). (R.V., "torches.") (3.) Domestic lamps (A.V., "candles") were in common use among the Hebrews (Matt. 5:15; Mark 4:21, etc.). (4.) Lamps or torches were used in connection with marriage ceremonies (Matt. 25:1). This word is also frequently metaphorically used to denote life, welfare, guidance, etc. (2 Sam. 21:17; Ps. 119:105; Prov. 6:23; 13:9). Source: Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary. |
Dream Interpretation | To see lamps filled with oil, denotes the demonstration of business activity, from which you will receive gratifying results. Empty lamps, represent depression and despondency. To see lighted lamps burning with a clear flame, indicates merited rise in fortune and domestic bliss. If they give out a dull, misty radiance, you will have jealousy and envy, coupled with suspicion, to combat, in which you will be much pleased to find the right person to attack. To drop a lighted lamp, your plans and hopes will abruptly turn into failure. If it explodes, former friends will unite with enemies in damaging your interests. Broken lamps, indicate the death of relatives or friends. To light a lamp, denotes that you will soon make a change in your affairs, which will lead to profit. To carry a lamp, portends that you will be independent and self-sustaining, preferring your own convictions above others. If the light fails, you will meet with unfortunate conclusions, and perhaps the death of friends or relatives. If you are much affrighted, and throw a bewildering light from your window, enemies will ensnare you with professions of friendship and interest in your achievements. To ignite your apparel from a lamp, you will sustain humiliation from sources from which you expected encouragement and sympathy, and your business will not be fraught with much good. (From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)
LAMP is an acronym for the free software combination Linux + Apache + MySQL + {Perl, PHP, Python}.This marketspeak buzzword was boosted into tech vernacular primarily by the editors of O'Reilly & Associates and MySQL AB. These four to six components are commonly used together for the development and deployment of dynamic web sites. The term itself surfaced and became fashionable in early 2001 -- just as the tech bubble was bursting -- even though these tools (and their relatives) had been used in conjunction with each other for years prior.
Although each tool is developed separately and is intended to operate independently of the others, they are very well suited for the task of complex web development when used together.
Each element of the LAMP acronym provides an essential layer of functionality:
Together, these tools allow one to set up a web server and have it serve useful content within hours, with the software cost being either zero or negligible. Because of this, these tools (and their relatives) are bundled with most current Linux distributions.
- Linux is the operating system;
- Apache is the web server;
- MySQL is the DBMS (database managment system [or, database server]);
- PHP is an object-oriented web scripting language;
- Perl is a powerful, general-purpose, object-oriented scripting language;
- Python is yet another powerful, general-purpose, object-oriented scripting language.
The software that currently runs Wikipedia could be characterized as a LAMP application. Wikipedia's MediaWiki software is developed primarily under Linux, using the Apache HTTP Server, with its content being stored in a MySQL database, and the program logic being implemented in PHP.
Relatives
LAMP doesn't encompass the whole spectrum of useful tools for the development of web-based technologies using free or open-source software. Other useful and commonly used tools include:Aficionados of the PostgreSQL object-relational DBMS don't mind much being left out of the acronym, as folks of their ilk tend to hold themselves above the use of marketspeak and buzzwords. However, for those with a propensity for catch phrases, the acronym LAPP will suffice.

Lighting is the illumination of an area.Natural indoor lighting is by windows and skylights.
Artificial indoor lighting is by lamps, today usually electric lights, but previously by gas, candles or oil lamps. Lighting equipment is part of furniture. Modern portable light is a torch or flashlight on batteries.
Street lighting is a part of the street furniture. In built-up areas streets often have lighting, usually by lamp-posts, other roads may or may not have lighting. Light pollution is of growing concern.
Vehicles often have white or yellow lights in front, to illuminate the part of the road, etc., in front, traffic signs, etc., and to make the vehicle more visible, and red tail-lights in the rear to quickly alert one driver about another's direction of travel.
