Kingston-on-Thames Named King's-stone from a large, square block of stone near the town hall, on which the early Anglo-Saxon monarchs knelt when they were anointed to the kingly office: Edward the Elder, Athelstan, Edmund, Ethelred, Edred, Edwy, and Edward the Martyr received on this stone the royal unction.
