Kellogg is a city located in Shoshone County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,395.

Geography


Kellogg is located at 47°32'18" North, 116°7'31" West (47.538391, -116.125406)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.0 km² (1.9 mi²). 5.0 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 2,395 people, 1,023 households, and 603 families residing in the city. The population density is 476.7/km² (1,235.1/mi²). There are 1,239 housing units at an average density of 246.6/km² (639.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.70% White, 0.13% African American, 1.59% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.25% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 2.63% from two or more races. 1.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,023 households out of which 30.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.0% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.0% are non-families. 35.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.94. In the city the population is spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $25,898, and the median income for a family is $32,260. Males have a median income of $29,214 versus $17,391 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,274. 21.8% of the population and 17.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 30.2% are under the age of 18 and 7.3% are 65 or older.

As of the census of 2000, there are 606 people, 248 households, and 169 families residing in the city. The population density is 649.9/km² (1,663.0/mi²). There are 282 housing units at an average density of 302.4/km² (773.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.35% White, 0.17% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 0.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 248 households out of which 34.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% are married couples living together, 11.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% are non-families. 27.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 2.96. In the city the population is spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.6 males. The median income for a household in the city is $37,000, and the median income for a family is $44,083. Males have a median income of $34,722 versus $23,125 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,161. 6.0% of the population and 2.7% of families are below the poverty line.
