Kobuk is a city located in Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 109.

Geography


Kobuk is located at 66°55'3" North, 156°54'25" West (66.917579, -156.906829)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 43.6 km² (16.8 mi²). 41.7 km² (16.1 mi²) of it is land and 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.34% water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 109 people, 26 households, and 23 families residing in the city. The population density is 2.6/km² (6.8/mi²). There are 45 housing units at an average density of 1.1/km² (2.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 4.59% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 93.58% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.92% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 4.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 26 households out of which 61.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% are married couples living together, 30.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 11.5% are non-families. 11.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.19 and the average family size is 4.26. In the city the population is spread out with 52.3% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 18.3% from 25 to 44, 17.4% from 45 to 64, and 2.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 17 years. For every 100 females there are 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.0 males. The median income for a household in the city is $30,750, and the median income for a family is $20,313. Males have a median income of $71,250 versus $21,875 for females. The per capita income for the city is $9,844. 28.6% of the population and 32.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 28.2% are under the age of 18 and 57.1% are 65 or older.
