Definition: INVERTED SIPHON |
INVERTED SIPHON1. A tube bent like a siphon, but having the branches turned upward; specifically (Hydraulic Engineering), a pipe for conducting water beneath a depressed place, as from one hill to another across an intervening valley, following the depression of the ground. |
| Domain | Definitions |
Mining | A. A pipeline crossing over a depression or under a highway, railroad, canal, etc. The term is common but inappropriate, as no siphonic action is involved. The term "sag pipe" is suggested as a substitute b. A pipe or tube in the shape of a siphon, but inverted, as for carrying water across the depression of a ravine to a lower level. (references) |
