Bible

Inn in the modern sense, unknown in the East. The khans or caravanserais, which correspond to the European inn, are not alluded to in the Old Testament. The "inn" mentioned in Ex. 4:24 was just the halting-place of the caravan. In later times khans were erected for the accommodation of travellers. In Luke 2:7 the word there so rendered denotes a place for loosing the beasts of their burdens. It is rendered "guest-chamber" in Mark 14:14 and Luke 22:11. In Luke 10:34 the word so rendered is different. That inn had an "inn-keeper," who attended to the wants of travellers. Source: Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary.

Dream Interpretation

To dream of an inn, denotes prosperity and pleasures, if the inn is commodious and well furnished.
To be at a dilapidated and ill kept inn, denotes poor success, or mournful tasks, or unhappy journeys. Source: Ten Thousand Dreams Interpreted ....

Specialty Definition: Inn

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Inns are establishments where travellers can procure food, drink, and lodging. Found in Europe, they first sprang up when the Romans build their famous system of highways two millennia ago. Some inns in Europe are centuries old. In addition to providing for the needs of travellers, inns traditionally acted as community gathering places.

In today's automobile-ridden world, real inns are fast dying out. The few that are left function primarily as pubs. In North America, inns are usually alcohol-serving restaurants that have never provided lodging or serviced the needs of travellers.

The original functions of an inn are now usually split among separate establishments, such as hotels, lodges, motels, pubs, restaurants, and taverns.

The German words for "inn", "innkeeper", and "inkeeping" illustrate the historical importance of inns. An innkeeper is Wirt (a host), the inn itself is a Wirtshaus (a host's house), and innkeeping is Wirtschaft. The last word literally means hosting or hospitality, but is also used to mean economy and business in general. In the Greek language, the word for economy (oikos "house" + nomos "law") is actually identical to house-keeping.

Inn River

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

The Inn is a river in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. It is a tributary of the Danube and 510 km in length.

The source is located in the Switzerland Alps above the Engadin region. It runs eastwards through the Austrian state of Tyrol and passes the border to Bavaria near Kufstein.

On Bavarian territory the river runs northwards and passes the cities of Rosenheim, Wasserburg and Waldkraiburg; then it turns east, runs through Mühldorf and Neuötting and is enlarged by two major affluents, the Alz and the Salzach.

From here to its border it forms the border between Germany (Bavaria) and Austria (Salzburg). Cities on this last section of the river are Simbach, Braunau and Schärding. In the city of Passau the Inn finally enters the Danube.
