Health

A genus of Orthomyxoviridae containing two major species (influenza A virus and influenza B virus) but many strains. A distinguishing feature is the various combinations of subtypes of the integral membrane glycoproteins hemagglutinin and neuraminidase. Hosts include several species of mammals and birds, with some interspecies transmission likely. The type species is influenza A virus. (references)
