INDUCTIVELY COUPLED DISCHARGE

Specialty Definition: INDUCTIVELY COUPLED DISCHARGE

DomainDefinition

Physics

A plasma created by applying an oscillating, radiofrequency potential to an inductive coil. The oscillating current in the coil creates an oscillating magnetic field, which in turn induces an oscillating electric field. Power is coupled to the plasma through the acceleration of electrons by the oscillating electric field. Inductively coupled discharges are widely used in the semiconductor industry and for driving electrodeless plasma torches. (references)
