Hancock is a city located in Houghton County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,323. It is the sister city of Porvoo, Finland. It contains Laurn Grove Park.

The Quincy Mining Company founded Hancock in 1859.

In 1869 a fire burnt down about 75% of the city.

Hancock is the home of Finlandia University.

Hancock is a town located in Addison County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 382.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 99.6 km² (38.5 mi²). 99.6 km² (38.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.05% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 382 people, 164 households, and 112 families residing in the town. The population density is 3.8/km² (9.9/mi²). There are 214 housing units at an average density of 2.1/km² (5.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.60% White, 0.00% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.52% from other races, and 1.57% from two or more races. 0.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 164 households out of which 27.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.9% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 28.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.77. In the town the population is spread out with 20.9% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 29.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 114.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 108.3 males. The median income for a household in the town is $29,583, and the median income for a family is $40,000. Males have a median income of $24,531 versus $21,875 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,255. 8.4% of the population and 6.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.4% are under the age of 18 and 7.8% are 65 or older.
