Garland County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of 2000, the population is 88,068. The county seat is Hot Springs.
Garland County was formed on 5 April 1873 and was named for Augustus Hill Garland, 11th governor of Arkansas.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,903 km² (735 mi²). 1,754 km² (677 mi²) of it is land and 149 km² (57 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.81% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 88,068 people, 37,813 households, and 25,259 families residing in the county. The population density is 50/km² (130/mi²). There are 44,953 housing units at an average density of 26/km² (66/mi²). Garland was settled in 1802 and incorporated in 1811. It was named for the settler Joseph Garland.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 98.5 km² (38.0 mi²). 97.8 km² (37.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.71% water.
