Specialty Definition: Fokker F27

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

The Fokker F27 Friendship is a turboprop airliner designed and built by the Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker. With 786 units built (including 206 in the USA by Fairchild) it is the most successful turboprop airliner of all time.

Design of the aircraft started in the 1950s as a DC-3 replacement. A number of different configurations were considered before the final decision on a high wing twin Rolls Royce Dart engines with a pressurised cabin for 28 passengers. The first prototype, PH-NIV first flew on 24 November 1955. The second prototype and initial production machines were 3ft longer, a correction to the first aircraft being a little tail heavy and also allowing more passengers and the more powerful Dart Mk 528 engine.

In 1956 Fokker signed a deal with Fairchild for the latter to construct the aircraft in the USA. The first US built aircraft flew on 12 April 1958. The first production model the -100 seated 44 passengers, with initial deliveries to Aer Lingus in September 1958. Dart mk532 was the next engine being used leading to the -200.

The most ubiquitous model the -500 had a 4ft 11in longer fuselage, a return to the Dart528 and accomodation for 52 passengers. It first flew in November 1967.

In 1985 two Fokker F27 Troopships were leased by the US Army parachute team, the Golden Knights. Subsequently two aircraft were purchased and designated C-31A Troopship. The aircraft were used both to transport the team to airshows and also as their jumping platform.

Personal relationship

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

The phrase personal relationship characterises some sort of connection between two or more people; or possibly between a person and an animal.

It includes:

A friend of a friend of someone may well be a friend of him or her, there is some transitivity. However, if two people have a sexual relationship with the same person, they may well be competitors rather than friends. Accordingly, sexual behavior with the sexual partner of a friend may well damage the friendship.

In a marriage or loving/sexual relationship there is often, but not always, an implicit or explicit agreement that the partners will not have sex with someone else. The extent to which physical intimacy with other people is accepted may vary. For example, a man may accept more physical intimacy between his wife and a female friend of her than if it is a male friend. (See also jealousy.)

The rise of individualism and of psychology may have led to the explosion of concern about one's personal relationships (or, in popular parlance, simply: "relationships"). Modern popular culture expects relationships to exist and to become laden with depth and meaningfulness. Pair-bonded sexual relationships receive particular attention in this context, but sociology recognises many other inter-personal links of greater or less duration and/or significance.

AuthorDateQuotation

John Locke

1690

Since then those, who like one another so well as to join into society, cannot but be supposed to have some acquaintance and friendship together, and some trust one in another; they could not but have greater apprehensions of others, than of one another: and therefore their first care and thought cannot but be supposed to be, how to secure themselves against foreign force. (Second Treatise of Government)

Treaty of Versailles

1919

The Swiss Federal Council has informed the French Government on May 5, 1919, that after examining the provisions of Article 435 in a like spirit of sincere friendship it has happily reached the conclusion that it was possible to acquiesce in it under the following conditions and reservations: (1) The neutralised zone of Haute-Savoie: (a) It will be understood that as long as the Federal Chambers have not ratified the agreement come to between the two Governments concerning the abrogation of the stipulations in respect of the neutralised zone of Savoy, nothing will be definitively settled, on one side or the other, in regard to this subject. (reference)

Winston S. Churchill

1946

Fraternal association requires not only the growing friendship and mutual understanding between our two vast but kindred systems of society, but the continuance of the intimate relationship between our military advisers, leading to common study of potential dangers, the similarity of weapons and manuals of instructions, and to the interchange of officers and cadets at technical colleges. ("Iron Curtain" Speech)
