Definition: A steward is a person who assures the implementation of a union contract, in any given worksite, and files a grievance on behalf of employees, when necessary. Classified employees at the University of Oregon contact a steward when they believe there is an inequity. The chief steward is the lead steward on campus, and distributes employee issues appropriately among the stewards.
