Benzoic acid, C6H5C(O)OH, is an aromatic carboxylic acid.
The aromatic ring is similar to that of benzene.
Among benzoic acid's derivatives are salicyclic acid and 2-O-acetylsalicyclic acid, also known as aspirin.
