Computing	BOFH // n. [common] Acronym, Bastard Operator From Hell. A system administrator with absolutely no tolerance for lusers. "You say you need more filespace? Seems to me you have plenty left..." Many BOFHs (and others who would be BOFHs if they could get away with it) hang out in the newsgroup alt.sysadmin.recovery, although there has also been created a top-level newsgroup hierarchy (bofh.) of their own. BOFH is an acronym standing for the Bastard Operator From Hell. This is Internet slang, long found on Usenet and IRC. "BOFH" was made famous by a humorous saga, written by Simon Travaglia, about a vindictive system administrator who takes out his anger on lusers.

By extension, the term is also used to refer to any system administrator who displays the qualities of the original. The traditional tool of the BOFH is the Luser Attitude Readjustment Tool (LART).
