Specialty Definition: De Soto (automobile)

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

The De Soto was a brand of automobile based in the United States of America, marketed by the Chrysler Corporation from 1928 through 1960.

The De Soto make was founded by Walter P. Chrysler on August 4, 1928. It was named after the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. Chrysler wanted to enter the brand in the competition with the arch rivals Oldsmobile, Nash and Pontiac. Intially, this was quite a success. But because the make was often fitted with the same body work as the Plymouth and Dodge, it lost its individual character.

The production of De Sotos ceased on November 30, 1960.

Diplomacy

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Diplomacy is the conduct of negotiations between persons, groups, or nations. Used formally, it usually refers to international diplomacy, the conduct of international relations through the intercession of (usually) professional diplomats.

Once concerned most prominently with royal dynastic marriage-alliances and questions of war and peace, diplomacy now concerns itself more with issues of trade and culture.

An ambassador is the most senior diplomatic rank. (See the list of ambassadors.)

In an informal or social sense, diplomacy often refers to the phrasing of statements in a tactful, non-confrontational, or social manner.

Diplomat

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

A diplomat is someone involved in diplomacy between two countries; the collective term for a group of diplomats from a single country is a diplomatic mission.

Since the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, diplomats have had diplomatic immunity which protects them from being persecuted or prosecuted while on a diplomatic mission.

In times of hostility diplomats are often withdrawn for reasons of personal safety, and in some cases diplomats are withdrawn when the host country is friendly but there is a threat from internal dissidents. Ambassadors and other diplomats are also sometimes recalled by their home countries as a statement of displeasure with the country they have been serving in.

Famous diplomats include:
