Hokes Bluff is a city located in Etowah County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 4,149.

Geography


Hokes Bluff is located at 33°59'36" North, 85°51'54" West (33.993449, -85.865118)1. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 30.6 km² (11.8 mi²). 30.1 km² (11.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.78% water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,149 people, 1,638 households, and 1,272 families residing in the city. The population density is 137.9/km² (357.0/mi²). There are 1,721 housing units at an average density of 57.2/km² (148.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.99% White, 0.10% Black or African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. 0.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,638 households out of which 32.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.6% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.3% are non-families. 20.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 2.93. In the city the population is spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $37,923, and the median income for a family is $42,534. Males have a median income of $32,444 versus $26,513 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,476. 4.3% of the population and 3.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.0% are under the age of 18 and 1.7% are 65 or older.
