Garfield Township is a township located in Bay County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,775.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 92.4 km² (35.7 mi²). 92.4 km² (35.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.06% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 1,775 people, 604 households, and 495 families residing in the township. The population density is 19.2/km² (49.8/mi²). There are 627 housing units at an average density of 6.8/km² (17.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.46% White, 0.90% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 1.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 604 households out of which 36.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.7% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.9% are non-families. 14.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
