Darlington is a city located in Lafayette County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,418.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 2,418 people, 985 households, and 639 families residing in the city. The population density is 712.7/km² (1,852.8/mi²). There are 1,052 housing units at an average density of 310.1 persons/km² (806.1 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.13% White, 0.04% African American, 0.04% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. 1.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 985 households out of which 31.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 35.1% are non-families. 32.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.96. In the city the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 86.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.5 males. The median income for a household in the city is $34,539, and the median income for a family is $44,048. Males have a median income of $30,238 versus $22,033 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,403. 9.9% of the population and 5.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 16.8% are under the age of 18 and 10.5% are 65 or older.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 119.8 km² (46.3 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 757 people, 266 households, and 196 families residing in the town. The population density is 6.3/km² (16.4/mi²). There are 276 housing units at an average density of 2.3 persons/km² (6.0 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.74% White, 0.00% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 266 households out of which 37.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.8% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 26.3% are non-families. 22.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.80 and the average family size is 3.31. In the town the population is spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 104.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.5 males. The median income for a household in the town is $38,750, and the median income for a family is $43,750. Males have a median income of $32,321 versus $22,167 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,614. 5.1% of the population and 5.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 1.3% are under the age of 18 and 12.4% are 65 or older.
