Cromwell Township is a township located in Clay County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 323.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 87.3 km² (33.7 mi²). 86.2 km² (33.3 mi²) of it is land and 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.25% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 323 people, 108 households, and 92 families residing in the township. The population density is 3.7/km² (9.7/mi²). There are 111 housing units at an average density of 1.3/km² (3.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 100.00% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 108 households out of which 40.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.0% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.9% are non-families. 11.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.99 and the average family size is 3.17. In the township the population is spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 108.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 111.2 males. The median income for a household in the township is $47,292, and the median income for a family is $47,708. Males have a median income of $32,083 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the township is $20,993. 4.3% of the population and 4.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 4.9% are under the age of 18 and 14.3% are 65 or older.

The racial makeup of the township is 99.14% White, 0.37% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 580 households out of which 34.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.2% are married couples living together, 5.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.8% are non-families. 21.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 2.97. In the township the population is spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.3 males. The median income for a household in the township is $36,629, and the median income for a family is $41,250. Males have a median income of $30,605 versus $18,125 for females. The per capita income for the township is $14,806. 9.4% of the population and 6.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 11.0% are under the age of 18 and 16.1% are 65 or older.
