| 2000 | Invention patented by Konstantin Vodopyanov on May 9th, 2000. Abstract: An optical parametric oscillator and a laser system including an optical parametric oscillator is provided for producing widely tunable coherent light over about 6 .mu.m, such as in the range of at least about 7 .mu.m to 18 .mu.m range. Optical parametric oscillators in accordance with the invention advantageously include CdGeAs.sub.2 (CGA) crystals. Such crystals, in accordance with the invention can exhibit exceptionally small (<0.1 cm.sup.-1) losses in intensity. Laser systems in accordance with the invention can include frequency-doubled CO.sub.2 lasers as the pump beam and frequency doublers or changers, based on CGA crystals. |
