Abstract: Using conventional glass frits for the production of black glass coating compositions makes it necessary also to use a relatively large quantity of black pigments. The quantity of pigment used may be reduced by using black glass frits according to the invention, thin layers of which already have a low transmission. The glass frit according to the invention is black and contains in the glass composition (in mol. %): 10-17% of K.sub.2 O, 10-25% of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, 15-30% of TiO.sub.2, 30 to 55% of SiO.sub.2, 0-5% of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0-5% of Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0.05-3% of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 (total iron) and 0.1-3% of sulphur (total sulphur).
