Aliceville is a city located in Pickens County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 2,567.

Geography


Aliceville is located at 33°7'35" North, 88°9'16" West (33.126276, -88.154427)1. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.7 km² (4.5 mi²). 11.7 km² (4.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,567 people, 978 households, and 646 families residing in the city. The population density is 220.2/km² (570.9/mi²). There are 1,092 housing units at an average density of 93.7/km² (242.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 32.29% White, 66.54% Black or African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. 0.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 978 households out of which 32.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.2% are married couples living together, 28.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.9% are non-families. 32.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.20. In the city the population is spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 21.4% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 19.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 75.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 64.9 males. The median income for a household in the city is $17,092, and the median income for a family is $23,233. Males have a median income of $25,114 versus $15,952 for females. The per capita income for the city is $11,028. 44.7% of the population and 38.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 64.6% are under the age of 18 and 29.9% are 65 or older.
