Aetna Township is a township located in Mecosta County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 2,044.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 93.0 km² (35.9 mi²). 92.2 km² (35.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.86% water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,044 people, 736 households, and 537 families residing in the township. The population density is 22.2/km² (57.4/mi²). There are 866 housing units at an average density of 9.4/km² (24.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 95.60% White, 0.39% African American, 1.52% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.59% from other races, and 1.86% from two or more races. 0.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 736 households out of which 36.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% are non-families. 22.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.76 and the average family size is 3.19. In the township the population is spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 100.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.9 males. The median income for a household in the township is $34,571, and the median income for a family is $36,683. Males have a median income of $31,397 versus $19,635 for females. The per capita income for the township is $14,141. 18.3% of the population and 10.2% of families are below the poverty line. In the township the population is spread out with 31.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 103.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.4 males. The median income for a household in the township is $36,964, and the median income for a family is $41,406. Males have a median income of $30,000 versus $21,875 for females.
