Geography

The term applied to any storm area of low barometric pressure where the winds blow spirally inwards ; Storm with violent winds and driving rain, caused by air being pulled around a zone of low pressure(eye)from a zone of high pressure, counter-clockwise in Europe and the northern hemisphere ; Violent storm which, while advancing bodily in a definite direction, rotates about an axis with great rapidity. Mining

A. The conical-shaped apparatus used in dust collecting operations and fine grinding applications. In principle, the cyclone varies the speed of air, which determines whether a given particle will drop through force of specific gravity or be carried through friction of the air b. A classifying (or concentrating) separator into which pulp is fed, so as to take a circular path. Coarser and heavier fractions of solids report at apex of long cone while finer particles overflow from central vortex. Also called hydrocyclone. CYCLONE

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

The CYCLONE, an early computer built in 1959 by Iowa State University, was based on the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) architecture developed by John von Neumann. As with all computers of its era, it was a one of a kind machine that could not exchange programs with other computers (even other IAS machines).

Cyclone programming language

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

The Cyclone programming language is intended to be a safe dialect of the C programming language. It is designed to avoid the buffer overflow and other vulnerabilities that are inherent in C, without losing the power and convenience of C as a tool for systems programming.

Cyclone was jointly developed by Greg Morrisett's group at Cornell University and AT&T Labs Research in the early 2000s. It received a certain amount of publicity in November 2001. As of April 18, 2002, the Cyclone compiler stands at version 0.5.

Lexicography

Devil's Dictionary

HURRICANE, n. An atmospheric demonstration once very common but now generally abandoned for the tornado and cyclone. The hurricane is still in popular use in the West Indies and is preferred by certain old-fashioned sea-captains. It is also used in the construction of the upper decks of steamboats, but generally speaking, the hurricane's usefulness has outlasted it.
