Valentine is a city located in Cherry County, Nebraska. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,820. It is the county seat of Cherry County6.

Geography


Valentine is located at 42°52'25" North, 100°33'1" West (42.873686, -100.550308)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 km² (2.0 mi²). 5.2 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 2,820 people, 1,209 households, and 733 families residing in the city. The population density is 541.7/km² (1,401.1/mi²). There are 1,373 housing units at an average density of 263.7/km² (682.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 92.20% White, 0.04% African American, 5.78% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. 0.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,209 households out of which 28.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% are non-families. 36.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.95. In the city the population is spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.0% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 21.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 87.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.8 males. The median income for a household in the city is $27,359, and the median income for a family is $39,138. Males have a median income of $26,549 versus $18,285 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,101. 10.6% of the population and 8.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 11.3% are under the age of 18 and 14.7% are 65 or older.

Valentine is a town located in Jeff Davis County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 187.

Geography


Valentine is located at 30°35'15" North, 104°29'44" West (30.587504, -104.495498)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 187 people, 72 households, and 55 families residing in the town. The population density is 150.4/km² (388.8/mi²). There are 138 housing units at an average density of 111.0/km² (286.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 89.84% White, 0.53% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 8.02% from other races, and 1.60% from two or more races. 58.82% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 72 households out of which 33.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.3% are married couples living together, 2.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.6% are non-families. 22.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.04. In the town the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 3.7% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 20.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 103.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.4 males. The median income for a household in the town is $34,375, and the median income for a family is $38,750. Males have a median income of $22,031 versus $33,333 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,136. 10.7% of the population and 12.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.2% are under the age of 18 and 0.0% are 65 or older.
