DomainDefinition

Computing

Monochrome Literally "one colour". Usually used for a black and white (or sometimes green or orange) monitor as distinct from a color monitor. Normally, each pixel on the display will correspond to a single bit of display memory and will therefore be one of two intensities. A grey-scale display requires several bits per pixel but might still be called monochrome. Compare: bitonal. (1994-11-24). Source: The Free On-line Dictionary of Computing.

Specialty Definition: Monochrome

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Something which is monochromatic has a single color. In physics, the word is used more specifically to refer to a electromagnetic radiation of a single wavelength. A monochrome computer display is capable of displaying only a single color, often green or white.

The word monochromatic comes from the two Greek words mono (meaning "one"), and chroma (χρωμα, meaning "surface" or "the colour of the skin").
