Grimes is a town located in Dale County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 459.

Geography


Grimes is located at 31°18'8" North, 85°27'4" West (31.302270, -85.451042)1. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²). 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 459 people, 180 households, and 124 families residing in the town. The population density is 139.5/km² (361.9/mi²). There are 208 housing units at an average density of 63.2/km² (164.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 60.78% White, 36.38% Black or African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 2.18% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 180 households out of which 33.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.2% are married couples living together, 17.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 23.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.01. In the town the population is spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 86.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 77.0 males. The median income for a household in the town is $28,839, and the median income for a family is $31,389. Males have a median income of $26,346 versus $19,063 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,884. 9.6% of the population and 5.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.6% are under the age of 18 and 18.2% are 65 or older.

Grimes is a city located in Polk County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,098.

Geography

Grimes is located at 41°40'59" North, 93°47'4" West (41.682939, -93.784438)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 23.3 km² (9.0 mi²). 23.2 km² (8.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.33% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 5,098 people, 1,887 households, and 1,437 families residing in the city. The population density is 219.9/km² (569.4/mi²). There are 1,958 housing units at an average density of 84.5/km² (218.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.19% White, 0.33% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 1.10% from two or more races. 1.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,887 households out of which 47.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.7% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% are non-families. 19.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.13.

In the city the population is spread out with 32.7% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 39.2% from 25 to 44, 15.6% from 45 to 64, and 5.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $56,275, and the median income for a family is $60,847. Males have a median income of $40,118 versus $31,588 for females. The per capita income for the city is $23,712. 3.3% of the population and 2.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 2.7% are under the age of 18 and 7.7% are 65 or older.
