Specialty Definition: Graham

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

A Graham is a Scottish hill with a height between 2000ft (610m) and 2499ft (761m) with a drop of 150m on all sides. The Grahams are a subset of the Marilyns. The Grahams in Southern Scotland are also classified as Donalds. There are 224 Grahams in total.

The Grahams were named in memory of Fiona Torbett (nee Graham) who created a list of 2000ft hills in the Highlands. However the list used is the Marilyns within the specified height range and covers the whole of Scotland.

Famous Grahams

Due to their inferior height the Grahams are often regarded as the poor relation to Corbetts and Munros. However a few are well formed and stick out from the crowd.

In Orissa, which has been known for violence against religious minorities (particularly after the murders of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two young children there in January 1999), the communal situation remained relatively unchanged during the year, despite the installation of a BJP-Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government in February 2000. The Orissa government in November 2000 notified churches that religious conversions could not occur without the local police and district magistrate being notified in order to give permission; however, this does not appear to have been enforced.
