Mining

A method of smelting lead ore in which the characteristics are a large charge of lead ore, a quick roasting, a high temperature throughout, and the aim to extract all the lead in the reverberatory. The hearth inclines toward the middle of one of the sides, the lead collects in the furnaceand is tapped at intervals into an outside kettle. (references)
